Back from New York City!

While I didn't attend the RWA conference this year, I did head to NYC for the Carina Press party at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and the Harlequin party on the Starlight Rooftop at the legendary Waldorf-Astoria. How could I possibly pass them up? I also wanted to catch up with my writer friends and, of course, enjoy the city.

I stayed at The Plaza Hotel, which is just too beautiful for words, and also enjoyed a breathtaking performance of Swan Lake at the Metropolitan Opera House.

If you attended the Literacy Signing before the conference started--and even if you didn't!--my promotion company handed out goody bags, and my items included the opportunity to win a $50 Amazon.com gift card!

So here's your chance to win! Leave a comment on my blog, telling me about your RWA conference experience if you attended, anything you love about NYC or what your July 4 plans are. It's that simple!

Best,

Calista

  1. Sounds like you had a great time at the Harlie events....I didn't get a chance to attend the RWA ...and I haven't been to NY in years but my Fourth of July plans include a family BBQ with my sister, her husband, their 4 kids and my parents. Then we'll all get in their minivan and head down to the river where there will be fireworks and some booths setup with snacks...then it's back to work on Tuesday. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Your visit to New York City sounds like it was a great one. I have to say that what I love most about New York City is my daughter who lives there. Other than that I haven't been to NYC in about35 years.

  3. I did attend the RWA Literacy Signing and spent 24 hours of non-stop fun! This was my second signing at the RWA and I did not like how this hotel had everything organized... or rather "unorganized". We stood in like from 3pm-6:30pm to get in the signing... once we were in we hit every table we could get to.. Of course we had our authors we had to see and they were scattered all around! Though there was definitely one author missing... that would be Calista Fox! The one thing I loved about NYC and this trip was... our hotel was right next to the Marriott.... LOL we thought we had to walk blocks to get there and all we had to do was walk out the other door of the hotel.

This year my 4th of July plans are to stay home, we normally go to the ocean, but my grandmother who isn't doing well is living with me and not sure when she may pass... since I ran up to NYC and ran back... I couldn't leave her again for a period of time.

I was able to get a goodie bag, thanks to another author who grabbed one for me and I was so pleased to see your book mark in the bag!

Congrats on the new release and of course I can't wait to read it-its' pre-ordered!

Keep up the good work and talk to ya soon!

  5. Hi Calista :)
My work schedual didn't allow for conferences other than RT this year. I LOVE New York's multi cultural lifestyle, I can find just about any culture showing it's pride there.
This year July 4 I'm on duty at the MR center where I work 3 RD Shift so I'll probably sleep through all the celebrations plus my Mom is in a very good rehabilitation center due to a severe, incapacitating back spasm. She's doing a little better each day and may? come home in about 3 weeks (if her back pain becomes managable so she can walk etc.)

  6. I've never had the pleasure of attending a conference, but love getting all the updates and pictures.

Headed to my folks for a bbq, then to the local high school for their fireworks show.

  7. Hello Calista! I've never been to NYC or an RWA convention but I did go to the RT convention in LA last April. I was completely overwhelmed and occasionally lost the entire week. I had a great time meeting my favorite authors and other readers. I know RWA is an even bigger event so I can't imagine how over the top it was.

  9. Oh...I wish I could have gone to Literacy Signing, but I live up in Alaska, and we were on alert to evac due to a forest fire on the mountain across from our home 100 miles away.
I would have loved to have gone. It was my dream to become a literature teacher with a minor in reading. But life happened and more important issues became more important. I think it is awesome that our authors take part int he Signing, and it encourages more reading for people of all ages.

Thank yu for the chance to win oneof your books, and for coming to the TRS Party.

  12. I have never attended a convention or been to New York. Both would cause me some problems considering that I have panic attacks when I am in large crowds or just surrounded without having ALOT of personal space. But I must get over this, or get some good nerve pills so that I can attend a book convention. LOL

For the 4th, my family all got together for a cookout, swimming and fireworks on the Saturday before, due to work schedules. It was a fun but exhausting day.

  13. SwanLake....Super envious! I'd love to get the chance to watch a bona fide ballet. Not being American; I neither can afford to attend RWA ($$$$!!) nor celebrate the 4th July. Love holidays tho, book reading indulgence time!

  14. Hi! I am sad to say I have not been to an RWA Literary Signing but I hope to one day. I would love to meet all my favourite authors plus get to discover new ones. I would be in Book Heaven collecting all those books and taking them home with me. I would also love to explore New York one day and go see some Broadway shows and see the Waldorf-Astoria!
